CCR welcomed a liter of Presa Canario pups into the program over the weekend. Xena is the petite Presa Canario mom who gave birth to 9 pups. Xena was rescued from out of state, in very poor condition. Due to her emaciation, it didn’t become apparent that she was pregnant until just days before she gave birth. Sadly, Rocco’s birth didn’t go exactly as planned, as he got stuck in the birth canal.
Whether it was the cause or the result of the difficult birth, Rocco was found (on Monday) to have been born without a radius. Therefore, he really doesn’t have a forearm at all. Thus, it has been determined that the best plan of care for Rocco is to amputate the front right leg. In this way, Rocco can run and play without having to drag this leg or trip over this leg. The fantastic Dr. Lewis in Austin, TX will perform this surgery (he has done hundreds of our spays/ neuters and many ACL tear repairs for our CCR dogs). This surgery will be performed at a significant discount and thus, we are needing to raise $650 immediately. Please help us help Rocco become more functional.
If you can’t donate at this time, please share this on you social media profiles using the buttons at the bottom of this page. Thank you for your continued support and thank you for sharing this post!!
