Update 8.27.2020 – Thank you to everyone that donated to Fernando. Fernando has had his eye surgery & he is going very well now.
Fernando came to CCR after being abandoned in a house. His history is unknown prior to being found. We do know that he’s about 1–2 years old, great with other large breed dogs and wants to play, play, play! CCR will repair his bilateral cherry eyes before he goes home.
Cherry eye repair and Entropian repair are the 2 MOST COMMON conditions that we see in the Cane Corso. Both are repairable and the dogs recover very quickly. We do use specific vets around the country for these procedures, and they all work closely with us on discounting the procedure. We are very grateful for this.
To repair Fernando’s bilateral cherry eyes we are looking to raise $800. This condition is the result when the tear duct of the third eyelid ruptures. It appears as a red bubble or “cherry” in the corner of the eye. Cherry eye looks different in each dog and it is not necessarily painful. However, the infection that the eye becomes susceptible to can be very painful. The dog’s vision will temporarily be affected until repair/ removal. There are a few techniques to repair the rupture and repair is the procedure CCR always choices. However, there are cases where part of the dog’s tear duct must be removed.
