CCR welcomed a liter of Presa Canario pups into the program last weekend. Xena is the petite Presa Canario mom who gave birth to 9 pups. Xena was rescued from out of state, in very poor condition. Due to her emaciation, it didn’t become apparent that she was pregnant until just days before she gave birth. Sadly, Rocco’s birth didn’t go exactly as planned, as he got stuck in the birth canal.
Whether it was the cause or the result of the difficult birth, Rocco was found (on last Monday) to have been born without a radius. Therefore, he really doesn’t have a forearm at all. Thus, it has been determined that the best plan of care for Rocco was to amputate the front right leg. In this way, Rocco can run and play without having to drag this leg or trip over this leg. The fantastic Dr. Lewis in Austin, TX performed his surgery (he has done hundreds of our spays/ neuters and many ACL tear repairs for our CCR dogs). This surgery was performed at a significant discount and thanks to our many CCR supporters we were able to raise $620 of the $650 required. Because of your support, Rocco was able to have the surgery and will live a happy, pain free life. CCR thanks all who supported Rocco’s cause. Rocco thinks you are all angels.

In addition to the amputation, Rocco has been completely vetted, neutered, micro-chipped, and is current on heartworm and flea/tic prevention. If you are interested in adopting Rocco, please complete an application to adopt and we will process your application as quickly as possible.
