Update 6.22.14: Great news! Mookie is ready for his forever home. If you are looking for a small Cane Corso than Mookie is NOT your man as he is a BIG, handsome boy who trots like the pony he is. Mookie had an ACL repaired and has been under the excellent care of his foster family. They have worked diligently to get the strength back in the leg after surgery and a stint in a shelter. All is well and you wouldn’t even know he had surgery. If you can find it in your heart to give this a boy a forever home, you will not be disappointed. Get your applications in as Mookie won’t be waiting long!
Update 4.1.14: Mookie’s foster reports that, “Mookie is doing well. Had a quiet good night’s sleep, ate and drank and had solid movements and NO in indoor accidents. Favoring the leg a lot. Walks on the lead well. Knows sit, down, and stay. Mookie met the teenagers in the house who were amazed by his size. They all did fine, dog sniffing and kisses! Taking him on structured walks, wants to go faster but not letting him for now. He knows heal and will stop and look at me but is reluctant to sit with leg (understandable so I am not concerned or requiring) He wants to play and romp so bad but he is not ready. This is all great news! Thank you foster family for taking such great care of our boy…he is definitely in good hands!
Update 3.31.14: Mookie is FREE! He was sprung today from the shelter by two very devoted volunteers (Lisa and Don), who each drove over 3 hours to ensure this sweet boy didn’t have to spend one more day in a shelter. CCR will update Mookie’s information in a week or two once he’s had time to settle into his is foster home. Check out Mookie’s selfie photo taken during his freedom ride. We knew he was a smart cookie but wow…taking selfies only a few hours after release! Impressive Mookie!
Update 3.30.14: A hiccup in the plan to transport Mookie, shelter said “no pick-up today” so CCR is looking for volunteers to help get him from Cape May, NJ to Westminster, MD during the week. Putting a transport request together will post shortly but in the meantime is anyone available to help?
Update 3.30.14: Best Mookie news ever….a fabulous foster has been found and not only do they have breed experience but he has experience with the recovery needs of a Corso who had ACL surgery. We are so happy for Mookie. Now to get him there!
Another urgent plea from a kill shelter in NJ regarding a stunning, black 6 year old Cane Corso that was surrendered because “the couple had a baby and they didn’t have the space for him anymore”. Mookie is a big boy even though he looks a tad bit skinny as he weighs about 156lbs. The shelter reports Mookie is really sweet and the only health issue is a torn ACL, which was repaired about a month ago. The shelter volunteer is so worried about him as Mookie can’t fit comfortably through the doggie door in their kennels. Neither the shelter or the owner reported or observed any behavioral issues. A wonderful CCR volunteer has offered to evaluate him further on Friday. We will update as soon as we know more unless of course an approved foster home is available before then.
