Update from Blu Mikey’s Foster Family 12.6.15: This “110-120 pound hunk of handsome Corso named Blu (Mikey) has full roam of the house without any issues (no crating), no chewing, marking, he doesn’t get on furniture, he doesn’t take food from tables/plates. He is politely affectionate and just wants to spend his time with his family.
Blu (Mikey) loves his toys and carries them all around the house. Ropes and balls are among the favorites but the squeaky animal toys are the bomb. He gently nibbles on them until he finds the squeak. He likes to play catch, fetch and retrieve for about 10 minutes then he usually decides it’s time for a break. He shares his toys nicely with his humans and will drop them upon command. He is energetic but doesn’t need tremendous amounts of activity. He currently doesn’t have a fenced in yard but does fine with at least two walks a day. He loves to play with his toys with his foster family and settles down quickly if he gets too enthusiastic with play.
Blu (Mikey) knows the following commands:Sit, Down, Wait, Stay, Come, Heel, Leave It, Drop It, No, Back Up, Settle, No Begging, Lay Down, OK-as a release word, Dude!–stops loud fur licking during middle of the night, Treat (automatically sits and waits for command to earn treat), Front/Back Door–he goes to them as called and sits until Ok release command, Go For a Ride (tears out of the house, the only time he’s unleashed, runs to the vehicle and sits with his nose on the car door until you open it).
Blu would do best in a home with a female of similar size or in a single dog household. He is a bit prey driven so no cats or small animals would be best. Typical of the breed, Blu is wary of strangers and needs time to warm up but when given time, space, and appropriate introductions his level of comfort increases and he is affectionate and playful.
It appears Blu never had any leash training and was difficult to handle when he came into his foster home but his leash manners have greatly improved over the past few months. This is an area that still needs some work but he learns quickly and wants to please his family.
Update 7.25.15: More great news for Mikey has found his foster family. And what an awesome family he has! We will continue to update his information once he has had some time to settle in! What a fabulous day for the CCR village!
Mikey is a gorgeous cropped and docked, solid blue male Corso. He is between 1 to 2 years of age and still has many of those puppy like mannerisms.
Update 7.19.15: Mikey had some very special CCR visitors today and boy was he happy to see them. Our volunteer writes, “Mikey is a big gorgeous and super friendly boy! And a very smart boy as he already knows a few basic commands, such as, sit and down; he is eager to learn more. Mikey has manners when taking treats but does need some leash work as was pulling a bit but then he was very excited to be out on the town with his friends. Mickey did just as well with the children who visited him and eagerly leaned in for petting and attention. Mikey still needs to gain a few pounds but other than that he is in great shape!” Mike has not been dog or cat tested as he was much to excited by his visitors. Please enjoy the many beautiful photos of Mikey taken by our volunteers today.
CCR recently welcomed Mikey to the family. We will post additional information as soon as it becomes available. Unfortunately, we did not have a foster available for Mikey so too ensure his life was spared he was placed in a boarding kennel.
Mikey has been completely vetted, neutered, micro-chipped, and is current on heartworm and flea/tic prevention. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Mickey, please complete an application & we will process as quickly as possible.
