The following Cane Corsos have been placed with the combined help and support of rescue organizations, volunteers and the generosity of those providing foster homes when needed:

April 7, 2003 - Hope has been adopted! Here's her story: We adopted "Hope" from the Cane Corso Rescue website. She now resides in rural upstate New York. She is a gem. She learned a lot in the first two weeks: getting used to the invisible dog fence, getting along with Meeka, our part St. Bernard, and the 2 housecats, and learning the schedule of the house. I wish we knew more about her life before us. She is not a "jumpy" dog, but a loud noise once sent her into a panic. I know it was fate that made me find this website the day after Hope was rescued from the shelter into the foster home of Janet!  Thank you.

April 30, 2006 - This is an update we received from Hope's happy owner: We adopted her in April 2003 and she continues to be a joy in our lives. She just completed a Canine Good Citizen class with her best friend Dante (our daughter's male Cane). These 2 are truly good representatives of the breed. We just love Canes! My cousin adopted one - a terrible cruelty case here in upstate NY. Keep up the wonderful work you are doing. Cane's are a great breed.

March 28, 2004 - Athena has found her forever home in Texas! Here are a couple of photos her new owner sent us of her, happy with her new found friends.

Success story #2: Athena's owner Liz has become the first CaneCorsoRescue.org rescue volunteer!

July 26, 2005 - Beau has been adopted! Here is an update from his foster mom: Hi Leilani - Great news!!! Beau has been adopted thru Hot Water Rescue and will be going to his new forever home this weekend. He will be the only child of a very stable couple who have a large extended family of extremely dog-oriented members. He will have lots of 2-legged and 4-legged buddies to play with and adore him. Also the couple live west of Boston, have land on Cape Cod (about 10 mi from me) and are in process of building a 2nd home. My kids, especially Demi, and I will miss him terribly but will still be able to see him. So thanks again for cross-posting his pix and story. Take care, Kathleen

A Real Cinderella: Haley’s Story - Early July of this year, Tammy Vreeland received a call regarding five traumatized Corso puppies. At only five weeks old, these puppies had witnessed unmentionable horrors and were already showing the effects. After the original breeder tried unsuccessfully to dock their tails, these pups were terrified of human contact. Tammy took the dogs into her home where her family treated these pups as their own. There was constant handling, love and attention showed to all of them. One little girl really bonded to Tammy and her son, Max. This girl would have to go to the perfect home or would stay right where she was! A perfect home is exactly what was found with Jeff Slane. With one Corso already (Ronin, 3) some members of the family were unsure about adding a puppy. It took only a few licks and this girl, now Haley, was quickly part of the family! Moving into a new home was tough on Haley for the first few days. She was a bit nervous and skittish, but with soft words and patience, her confidence grew. Now, Haley plays at the dog park, as brave and playful as any of the pups there. Haley and her new big brother, Ronin, love to visit the beach to play fetch in the surf. And nothing tops playing with Jeff’s young niece – Haley just loves her two-legged playmate! Jeff, Ronin and the Slane family have done a marvelous job in raising Haley. Every day she is becoming a more confident, well-rounded Corso; far from the Corso she once was. We’re sure Haley agrees she is in the perfect home! Jeff has would like to say “Thank You” to the Vreeland family for their rescue work. Note: All the pups from this litter went into wonderful homes and are all success stories! B. Rabbit, puppy number five, is running carefree at the Rainbow Bridge after a short, but deeply loved life.

September 29, 2005 - This is an e-mail we received from Eddy, who adopted a Cane Corso through Hot Water Rescue:

I am a new member of ICCF and the proud father of a 13 week old Corso pup. This is an initial email that will be followed by a success story with pictures of Dozer. Dozer is a CC that I found through Hot Water Rescue in Conn. I had originally emailed them based on seeing a 8 month old Corso on the ICCF rescue site. That male found a home - but Hot Water had a litter of pups that have a Cane mother and they believe a Cane father. Based on what I see and how Dozer is developing - to my untrained eye I suspect that he is pure Cane or Cane and maybe some pit - but he looks very much like he is all Cane. Dozer is a very sweet boy who has found a new home here in my historic house with 7 1/2 acres in Mendham, NJ. We started puppy class at St. Huberts and are on the way to mastering house training. As a child my family had Benito, a Neo that got attacked by our 2 shepherds the first day he came home and became very difficult - we had to get rid of him after he attacked the UPS man and did significant damage.  (That was about his 5th bite that required stitches). Several years after - when I was in high school and college we got Reggie, who was a sweetheart of an English mastiff. I also have a history of being bitten by my sisters shepherd and taking 38 stitches in my right hand on Thanksgiving about 10 years ago (long story made short - Thanksgiving at sisters new 1br apartment in NYC, 2 adult non-neutered male shepherds, parents and sisters, fight, too close to 88 yr old grandma - I grab our dog, pull him back and stand him up - he stops - other dog lunges for his throat - and I stiff armed him in the face to take the bite for Giacomo). Long and the short of it is that I need to make sure I do everything possible to make sure Dozer achieves his potential and never becomes a biter. I try to take him out as much as possible, to Barbeques, to Giants tailgates, etc. He is sweet and very social. He also has clear alpha-dog tendencies, is very playful and can get a little mouthy with me. I have spoken to teachers at St .Huberts and have gotten some good input. I am going to continue at St. Huberts and go through their program and up the chain to higher education. That said - I am wondering if you know of any good trainers in NNJ area - near Morristown - who have Corso experience and do at home training.  I feel like I can and need to do more for him. Also - how do you feel about sleep away training classes?  Any ideas? -Thanks. Eddy D'Alessandro, Jr.

Kenya: Abandoned, Now Found - In September 2005, authorities found a blue brindle female abandoned in a home. Her original family had moved out leaving her on her own. Weighing only 70 pounds, this girl had resorted to eating anything she could find - matchbox cars, Barbie dolls, plastic and metal included. More surprising, however, was this girl’s sweet nature. Even after her ordeal she showed no aggression to food, humans or animals. ICCF/CCAA member, Nancy Shaver, had recently submitted an interest in fostering a needy Corso. Nancy agreed to foster this girl and made the four and a half hour trip to see her at the shelter. For Nancy it was love at first sight! She knew the girl was meant to be more than a foster and instantly named her Kenya. Kenya now has a forever home in Ohio with Nancy and her Corso brother, Durango and Corso sister, Asia. There were challenges in introducing a third Corso; it seems Durango didn’t want to share his Mom’s affection! However, Durango is quickly warming up to his new sister. Kenya has received a clean bill of health from the vet, she has even put on a whopping 45 lbs! Being a big girl has not kept her from being a cuddle bug! She loves to snuggle and gladly shares her toys or treats with her new family. The previous owners were prosecuted and found guilty of animal cruelty and neglect.

October 12, 2005 - Maximus has been adopted! Thanks to Liz, his foster mom, for taking care of him and for all her hard work!

May 1, 2006 - Here's an update from CeeCee's owner: Hello from Maryland! I just wanted to pass an update along about our sweet little Cee Cee. She's getting to be a big Cee Cee and was 85lbs at her last vet appointment. She finally got spayed, and the vet is confident that she is rid of the mange. She has lots of soft, beautiful fur and is such as sweetheart. Maximus and CeeCee are best friends and follow each other around constantly. Each morning when they get up they give each other kisses - it's so cute. Here is the latest picture of Cee Cee and one of them together. Thanks again for giving us this opportunity and we hope to hear from you all soon! April 9, 2006 - Here is an update from Rennie's owner: Dear Kathy and Krissy, I just wanted to let you know that Rennie and I are getting along just wonderfully!  She had her first bath this morning.  May I say I got a bath too?!!  lol  She loved the warm water and the massage that comes with the shampoo.  She sure smells better!  I have also found out that she loves being brushed at well...such groaning and moaning!  As I have written Krissy, Rennie moans, barks and cries in her sleep.  I am gonna erase those memories if its the last thing I do.  Today, she is resting quietly, no running or dreams...she is settling in.  Gosh, I LOVE THIS DOG!  For that matter, everyone loves her!  We are trying diligently to get her play with her toys....how in the world to we do that?  I have no idea.  She has plenty, sniffs them and then looks at me like "yea whatever".  LOL

Her appetite has really come along.  I consulted with the nutrition department at work and they suggested Science Diet Active.  She gets 4 cups of that a day....2 cups at a time with an added cup of cottage cheese on it and some warm water.  She looks forward to it and usually eats it all licking the bowl nice and clean for me!  ;o)  She also receives treats throughout the day. Her favorite being some funky octagonal shaped boring looking biscuit that I got on the treat bar at PetCo.  LOL  She also enjoys the dog "cookies" with the creme filling.  I am not overdoing on the treats, using them as a reward and a nice gesture here and there.  As far as table food goes, the cottage cheese it is.  I tried with the happy meal and am very happy she didn't take to it.  She doesn't seem to be interested in what I am eating unless its of all things COTTAGE CHEESE! (lol) Yesterday I went to the Linen Outlet and purchased 2 huge tapestry tablecloths which at this moment are being made into new dog covers for her beds.  I am making both of them myself.  The tapestry suits her...she is regal and gallant and deserving items of a queen!  I know she has stories to tell.

Yesterday was the first time I left her alone here at home.  She did quite well other than pooping on the floor.  I had the neighbors (mom, dad and daughter...who have totally fallen in love with her!!) come and let her out but they didn't have her out long enough.  We had accidents...oh well, life goes on.  I don't want to crate her unless absolutely needed.  Her nose is finally healing and I want it to continue to do so. When I got home last evening, what a greeting I got!!!  She jumped up but not on me, rolled over on her back, tail going 50,000 miles an hour!!  She was just as happy to see me as I was to see her!!  What a wonderful feeling to come home to!!  She did play a bit outside yesterday...we ran around the yard and she went down on her honkers and jumped from side to side...another triumph!!  WOOHOOOOOOOOOO

All I can say is THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!  I LOVE HER SOO MUCH.  We are a match made in heaven!  And Krissy, I don't care about her looks...I used to weigh 350 pounds and know the rejection that goes with looking different.  She is beautiful in my eyes and always will be.  Speaking of looks....her head it looking better as well.  Its getting smaller.  I catch her once in a while digging at it with her foot and correct her for that...probably the main reason its not healing as nice as it should.  The continued trauma is not a good thing. I could keep going on and on about her.  We are just so happy!  My life is full again...neither of us are lonely! Thank you sooo much!  If I am being annoying with my emails (Krissy) please let me know.  Don't mean to be however I know how concerned you are about her and I do understand how hard it was for you to let her go.  Tell Dad he would be proud of his kid.  She is doing wonderfully!! -Roxanne :o)

April 20, 2006 - Here is another update from Rennie's owner: Hello Krissy and Kathy, I hope this email finds you both as well as Rennie and I are!  She is adjusting beautifully and each day surprises me with a bit more information about herself. I brought her to work with me yesterday to have dentistry take another look at her broken right canine and to see if she does qualify for the periodontal study.  She will qualify once that broken tooth is removed.  The surgeons took a look at her and will be spaying her as soon as she gains another 5-10 pounds, the dental work and spay will be done at the same time.  She put on another 2.2 pounds this past week.  :o) At home she is nothing more than a LOVE!!!  She is quiet, loyal and lazy.  I get a big kick out of her!  She loves lying on the front porch, ruling the roost if you will, keeping an eye on the neighborhood and its goings on.  The front porch/yard is kept for the occasional pee but its mostly for strutting.  LOL  She can lie out there for hours alone and not think anything about it but don't let her alone in a room or in the house...she does NOT like that at all.

Each morning we go for a little walk up the street.  Me, I am stumbling at 5am but she is more than ready to head out.  She comes back in hungry, this is when she eats her best.  Her appetite is still off and on.  One day she eats like a piggy, the next a cup or 2 at the most.  I do add a cup of 4% fat cottage cheese in her food along with some flavor granules and her vitamins.  Dry is left out for her during the day; sometimes she eats it, sometimes she doesn't.  I wish I could say she was at the door waiting for me when I got home but that hasn't happened yet.  She is usually upstairs on her bed sound asleep.  One holler, "Rennie girl, come on Sweetie Pie" and thump thump thump, rumble rumble rumble, down the stairs she comes, suddenly, she is at my feet, and the tail, oh the tail goes 150 miles per hour, no jumping, no licking but she loves to rub her head on my side saying, "pet me pet me pet me, lets go for a walk".  She knows in the evening she goes for a longer walk; each night, no matter what we take at least a half hour walk.  This is her glory time - sniff sniff sniff sniff and sniff some more!  She piddles here and there and totally enjoys the outside time.  I got her an extend-a-leash so she can have more freedom.  Her manners on the leash, be it the short one or the long one, are impressive!  She will heel, sit, stay and lie down with only a mention of the word.  She is very obedient.  I use these words every time we walk and in the house as well.  She knows her place and seems to enjoy it.  Yesterday we were rough housing in the yard, acting silly: sit, lie down and then I said it. I said the words "ROLLOVER. ROLLOVER RENNIE.RENNIE ROLLED OVER!!! Talk about amazing!  This dog is AMAZING!!

Easter was filled with visitors at our house. Many children were around and Rennie handled it like a pro. She loved playing with the kids, showing no signs of aggression or impatience.  By the end of the day, she was exhausted and we were stepping over her to let folks out the front door.  She had one accident in the house that day, may fault I am sure. The housetraining is going quite well.  She seems to have gotten it down that she is to go outside.  I give her much praise each and every time she goes outside.  She does better alone to poop and I allow her that privacy; she has an affinity for behind the pool  LOL. She has formed a love for dried roasted chicken strips.  'Here I come back in from pooping, I want my chicken strips!'  Funny.  Its all added protein to rebuild those muscles that had wasted away during her former life.  Her hair coat has become shiny and so soft.  She really enjoys being brushed as well.  This weekend she will be getting her second bath, something she really loves.

Rennie's head lesion is now the size of a quarter.  Its no longer so mean and angry looking.  Each morning she sits ever so still so I can put on her silver sulfadiazine; I think it is soothing to her.  At the end of the day, lying on her bed in my room, she is all stretched out, relaxed, eyes just beginning to close, I put on her Bactaderm cream and she never moves, I rub it in gently and she falls off to sleep.  What JOY she brings me!! Krissy and Kathy, I love this dog.  She has brought such joy into my life!  She makes me exercise more, she makes me get out of bed each day!  I can see that happy twinkle in her eyes too.  We are a pair, she and I. Sorry it has been several days between emails.  I am attaching a picture of her lounging in the living room.  I hope you can see a change in her.  She is my Sweetie Pie. -Roxanne

April 13, 2006 - Here is an update from Luca's (now known as "Oakley") owner: Hi Kathy! I apologize that it's been so long since I've been in touch. I realized today that we were supposed to settle up the business stuff about two weeks ago...time has been flying! Luca has been keeping us very busy, but we are enjoying every minute of it. We found a place near by that does guard and police dog training, as well as general obedience training and that is working out really well. We are taking him through an on and off leash program. We're not even half way through and he has improved so much! It's amazing to see how quickly they learn. Well, just wanted to give you an update and discuss the paperwork stuff. And I threw in another picture for you :) Talk to you soon! Thanks, Laura

April 18, 2006 - Here is an update from Mayia's (now known as "Nyla") owner: Hi, Liz! I just wanted to thank you so much for all of your help with adopting Mayia.  She has been home for only 2 days and I have to say that she is the most adorable girl I have ever met.  We are all just CRAZY about her and I think she feels the same about us.  She is so loving and extremely smart! We decided to change her name to Nyla and she already comes when you call her name.  She only had 1 accident in the house so far…she has already started to go by the door when she needs to go outside.  The kids are having a great time with her.  She loves to play ball.  When we play baseball, she will fetch the ball up and bring it back.  It is so nice to have an outfielder to play with. She is doing great with her crate.  We have been sleeping on the couch with her at night just to make sure she is ok.  However, the first night my daughter slept in her sleeping bag next to her crate.  I took Nyla outside during the night and when I brought her back in she decided that sleeping with my daughter looked comfortable so I just let her go…it was so cute!  We are just having a blast with her and I am thankful that she is part of our lives. My family came over yesterday and they couldn’t believe how good she was…she took a nap in her crate when we ate.  They were also surprised at how beautiful she is.  My mother-in-law took lots of pictures of her new grandbaby.  Today my father-in-law is going to bring over his young Lab so they can play and run around. We are just having a blast with her and I am thankful that she is part of our lives. I am at work today however I am taking off tomorrow, Wednesday and maybe Thursday.  You can give me a call at work or home when you have some time. Talk to you soon!

April 24, 2006 - Here's an update from Leara's (now known as "Ragazza") owner: Hi Kathy, Well, two weeks have passed and we still love this dog.  Attached are some pictures.  We had our first of eight obedience classes and Ragazza is becoming proficient at sit, down, and come.  She makes friends easily with the other dogs.  Bridget is back to school this week so we are settling into our daily routine, early morning walk, crate-time, late afternoon walk, etc.  The Lhasa Apso we were watching is back with her owners.  They became great playmates.  Ragazza follows Bridget around wherever she goes, but does like to lay on top of me when I lay down on the floor.  Housebreaking is a work-in-progress.  She's interested in the cats and would chase them if given the chance so we watch her constantly.  The cats spend most of their time outside or in the basement.  Overall, we're very happy. -Bill

April 21, 2007 - Jasmine was on death row in Brooklyn since last Thanksgiving, but has thankfully since been adopted by Char and Eddie Flood. Here is a letter they wrote to us:

I hope this reaches you and the Cane Corso family in good health. I am writing this to give you all a wonderful update on Jasmine.

It has been about two months since Jasmine first arrived, and what a joy she is!!! She seemed a little depressed in the beginning but she has REALLY come out of her shell.

In the beginning, Jasmine’s transition to her forever home seemed too easy. There was no sign of aggression towards our other Cane Corso, McMillan, who is almost 8 years old.

In fact, McMillan let her pretty much take over. Jasmine has learned some tips from McMillan, like for instance to speak on command. McMillan is epileptic and needs to get meds twice a day. Usually when the time comes, and Ed and I are preoccupied McMillan will remind us. Now, McMillan has let Jasmine take over that task, especially in the evenings. It has been said that dogs can sense the onset of seizures in humans so logically speaking, dogs should be able to detect that in other dogs. Jasmine also takes cues from McMillan on who is acceptable and who is not.

Jasmine has a tremendous disposition!! She has completely attached herself to me. I can not take a shower without peering her head around the shower curtain. Every morning Jasmine gets up and seeks everyone out for a hug and a kiss, even McMillan. Every since McMillan started having seizures, he seemed to be physically deteriorating. He has started getting arthritis in his hind legs. Sometimes he doesn't want to go outside and will not go. Jasmine has given him a renewed spirit and appears to be bright spot for him. Don't get me wrong, there are some days where Jasmine does outright annoy McMillan but it has become like a sibling type relationship. They wrestle and play tricks on each other. If they are in our backyard and Jasmine start getting over in strength McMillan will yank Jasmine’s leash, as to "correct" her. That always seem to put her in check.

I just want to end by thanking everyone at the Cane Corso Rescue for all of their efforts. You guys did a wonderful job on your advice with bringing another Cane Corso into our household. We love Jasmine as though we had her since she was a puppy. We can't imagine why anyone would want let her go so easily. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Here is a follow-up letter they wrote on February 17, 2008:

Hi Liz!! I hope every one at the Cane Corso Rescue is wonderful and blessed!

I am writing because it is one year that Jasmine (affectionately called Jazzy) has been in our lives. I can not begin to tell you how happy we are with her being a part of our lives and most importantly family. I just want to take this opportunity to again, thank everyone for all their efforts and support in getting the missing piece of our family. I wholeheartedly feel that she was meant to be with us. Transitioning has been so well, almost to well.

The dynamics very much has shifted in our household. Our male has aligned himself with Ed and Jazzy is very much attached to me. She is my shadow. I work swing shift so if I return at night, she waits for me at the back door. It is the most wonderful thing to open that door and be greeted with so much love and joy.

Jazzy has become very "vocal" in her wants and needs since she has learned to speak on command. Not like in the beginning where she appeared to be a little depressed.

Obedience training is where it should be – she works off the lead now. Ed has had Jazzy working off leash for months now and I have just gotten to point where I can as well. Our trainer that we use for more advanced training has met her last month and can not wait until she ready for him. The trainer says she has a wonderful temperament, and he praises the Cane Corso Rescue for their efforts in preserving that. He indicated often times rescue dogs come with a host of problems not to mention integration into a forever home. We did not have any of that.

I do not know if we shared this with you but this past November, Jazzy needed all her shots updated and at that time we took McMillan for a check-up. They had to be separated in the vet because they were doing two different things. McMillan howled when he left Jazzy’s side. Jazzy was taken into an examining room and really did not want to cooperate because she sat by the door waiting for McMillan’s return. Dr. Brown, our vet said that is a very good sign and it affirms that they have become a part of each other’s world – and they look forward to interacting with each other and they actually probably like each other to an extent. Dr. Brown went on further to say that some dogs, especially breeds like they are never mix. Again, I take this as proof that Jazzy was meant to be with us.

I just want to take this time to again, thank you Liz and everyone at The Cane Corso Rescue. You guys are wonderful.

Take Care and God Bless,

Char & Ed

Thank you so much for getting us Thena.  We just can't believe how good she is - she is a perfect match for all of us (family and existing pets).  She's big, beautiful, well-behaved, gentle, gets a long with Dom and the cats; we simply could not have asked for a better dog.
